She was in attendance to pick up the Global Icon Award.

And Janet Jackson, 52, proved she was still the queen of R&B when she took to the stage at the MTV EMAs 2018 in Bilbao, Spain on Sunday night to perform a medley of her greatest hits.

The superstar wowed the audience with her energetic performance at the star-studded awards show, before delivering a powerful acceptance speech on behalf of women everywhere who have been ‘gagged’.

As she picked up the Global Icon Award in recognition of her contributions to music, Janet revealed she wanted to speak for those ‘whose voices have been stifled’

Janet declared: ‘I love you guys so much. I accept this award with profound gratitude, to be called an icon is a tremendous honour, one that comes with a tremendous responsibility.

‘Tonight I need to speak for women whose voices have been stifled.

‘I am one of those women. Women who have been gagged both literally and emotionally, women who have been abused, who have been intimated, who have lived with fear. I stand with you – you are my sisters.
