EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) winner Whoopi Goldberg who is also the moderator for The View confronted Oscar winner and comedian, Mo’Nique on her stance for not promoting the movie Precious.
Mo’Nique visited the ladies of The View on Thursday to further explain her boycott of Netflix and how she felt women of color are not being properly valued for their worth in the industry. The comic spoke about Dave Chapelle, Chris Rock and Amy Schumer pay offers compared to hers.
Whoopi, seemed to be listening intensely to Mo’Nique without much exchange. Until, Mo’Nique started to explain her position on why she did not promote the 2009 Oscar winning Precious claiming that Oprah Winfrey, Lee Daniels and Tyler Perry all were responsible for sabotaging her name.
After six minutes, Whoopi cut in. “I’m going to stop you because contractually, when you make a movie, regardless of who you sign the deal with, your job is to go and promote said movie,” Goldberg said. “And we’ve had this conversation, and I said if you had called me, I could’ve schooled you on what was expected.”
Mo’Nique went on, “So for eight years my family has suffered and my career has suffered because I would not allow those entities to bully me. And because I did not allow the bullying to happen, this is what I sit in.”
