The NYFCC names winners in several traditional awards categories every year, like best actor/actress and best director, and is part of the annual run-up to Oscars season. The awards will be handed out at a ceremony in New York in January.
Another Regina we love also picked up an award on Thursday, as Regina King won Best Supporting Actress for her turn as Sharon Rivers in Barry Jenkins’ adaptation of James Baldwin’s If Beale Street Could Talk. Both the film and King’s performance have received tons of buzz, with hopes that King will secure an Oscar nomination at the top of 2019.
As buzz grows around If Beale Street Could Talk and Hall’s NYFCC Awards win, the two ladies could see themselves receiving more wins as awards season begins.
