Joe Jackson, father and music manager of the Jackson 5, has died at age 89 a source close to the family tells CNN.
He passed away early Wednesday morning in Las Vegas, family sources told TMZ. There have been multiple reports of Jackson’s failing health in recent weeks.
Jackson’s son Jermaine told the Daily Mail, “He’s very, very frail, he doesn’t have long. The family needs to be by his bedside — that’s our only intention in his final days.”
Jackson is survived by his wife Katherine and their many children, Janet, Randy, Marlon, La Toya, Jermaine, Tito, and Jackie. Joe Jackson also has another son, Joh’Vonnie Jackson whose mother is Cheryl Terrell. His son Brandon died at birth in 1957 and Michael died in 2009.
Jackson started managing his children and their bands in the early 60s and The Jackson 5 first hit it big in 1966. The band, featuring a 7-year-old Michael Jackson had four singles hit the top spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.
Janet Jackson is scheduled to perform at Essence Music Festival next week.
