November 22, 2018 marks the Thanksgiving holiday release of “Super Van Tackles Cancer,” a children’s chapter book co-authored in tandem with former NFL player and cancer survivor Dominic “Billy” Austin, ten-year old cancer survivor Van Johnson, and Legacy Literary Communications. This release is the inaugural book of the Tackle Cancer book series, which was conceptualized by Austin and includes inspirational stories of youth using their superpowers to beat cancer.

The book, inspired by the real-life cancer battle of then six-year-old Van Johnson, shares the story of his unexpected diagnosis, his family’s struggle to learn about and battle the disease, and his ultimate triumph. November 2018 marks 1,000 days of remission for Johnson as well as the release of his new book. Record-breaking college football coach Gary Patterson penned the foreword, Hall of Fame Coach Joe Battista provided an endorsement, and football themes and quotes from NFL legends intersperse the book as the young character Van is an avid football fan with dreams of playing flag football when he receives the devasting diagnosis.

“This is what Thanksgiving is about: putting aside our differences and coming together as a team to bring awareness to pediatric cancer awareness through Van’s inspirational heroic journey on the way to Remissionville,” said Austin.

Please join the Johnson family along with Austin for a book signing celebrating the release of “Super Van Tackles Cancer.” It will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2018 from 6-8 pm in the library of Arredondo Elementary, 6110 August Green, Richmond, Texas 77469. Books will be available for purchase on site.
