Boston Bruins NHL legend Willie O’Ree who broke the color line in the NHL 60 years ago has partnered with the The Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation and the Philadelphia Flyers to bring more than 100 students, coaches and directors from the “Hockey is for Everyone” programs across North America to Philadelphia for the 2018 NHL Willie O’Ree Skills Weekend.

The event will go from Friday to Sunday as part of the National Hockey League’s “Hockey is for Everyone” Month.

Student-athletes will come from the 17 NHL-affiliated Hockey is for Everyone programs. The events will take place at the National Library Museum, the National Constitution Center, the University of Pennsylvania’s Class of ‘23 skating arena and the Scanlon Ice Rink.

The event is meant to bring youth of color to the sport and promote the awareness of black youth being included in every sport.
