Breaking into a loud chant before the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons face each other off at the NRG Stadium, about 500 people united for an anti-Trump march starting at Hermann Park at noon.

The protesters, kicking off their cause more than five hours ahead of the main event, yelled “Hey, hey, ho, ho, Donald Trump has got to go.”

Following a two-mile route to the stadium, the groups participating in the protest included Black Lives Matter, the local Democratic party, the ACLU and the communist party, among others.

Less than 30 feet away, 15 police officers on horseback were lined up, and a helicopter circled.

Among the protesters was Houston local Jane McEldowney, 62, a lawyer and licensed mental health professional. In November, McEldowney said she began joining protests shortly after the presidential election.

“I count myself among the complacent until now,” she said. “I have been inspired by Donald Trump, not how he intended.”
