In 2006 when the Real Estate industry was on the edge of financial collapse, Savannah Blue walked into G’s & Z’s a coffee shop in the 3rd ward area and startled her first audience with the power, pride, and audacity of her performance of “Who Am I”, a poem in which she proudly proclaims for all accomplished women, “I am the queen of all queens”, which is also the title of her 1st CD. The poet Savannah Blue was born, and quickly became in demand for featured performances in the bustling open mic performance poetry scene in Houston and Galveston. Her trade mark is a fiery delivery, a clear voice which can evoke a range of emotions, and her total command of the stage. . Savannah Blue notable performances and accomplishments have included: The role (appropriately) of the Lady in Blue in a local production of Ntozake Shange’s For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf. 1st place Front Cover Poetry Slam 2008. #1 ranking poet for Houston Poetry Slam regular 2008 – 2009 season. #2 Finalist in the Houston Slam Team Grand Slam Final. She has competed as a finalist in numerous local poetry slams, as well as competed in the annual Make It Wet Spit Fest in Austin, Texas, and the 2009 Arkansas Grand Slam. Savannah Blue wrote and directed the stage play “Voices”. She’s been opening acts for BET Comedians, Shang Forbes, Hope Floats, Damn Fool, Kier Spate, Keisha Hunt and Rodney Lil Brough. She’s taught poetry classes at University of Houston, Lamar University and guest speaker and performer at Prairie View A & M for Women’s History Month. Savannah has also written the play “7” which is set to be released in 2018. She is the founder of Savannah Blue Arts & Outreach A 501C3-non-profit where we serve the community through the presentation of modern, cutting edge performance poetry events, workshops, and youth literacy outreach. Savannahs flagship event is the Bayou City Poetry Slam. The Bayou City Poetry Grand Slam features top names from the Poetry Slam circuit, some of the poet/performers have been seen on HBO’s Def Jam Poetry, have competed throughout the nation, and have represented America many times in the World Poetry Slam. The Slam has won recognition throughout the US and Savannah Blue was recognized and awarded in Dallas for the Top Poetry Slam in Texas. In 2015 Savannah Blue Arts & Outreach began a partnership with The Alley Theatre to host Bayou City Poetry Slam throughout the coming years. They have been so impressed with Savannah, she is now a committee member of Syncing Ink a hip hop play out of New York. Savannah Blue Arts & Outreach was recently awarded an organizational grant to help Bayou City grow and serve the community. Recently Savannah facilitated and organized with KHOU Channel 11, 1st Super bowl Poetry Commercial, as well as another Houston Stands Commercial. She has become one of Houston Top Performers and Event Promoters. Recently SBAO had its first 2-day Poetry Festival at Houston Community College and Alley Theatre with over 1,000 people in attendance both days.
