The 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang have arrived and seven black athletes have made history by competing in the games. The athletes are gracing Team USA hoping to win the gold.
The notable Olympians are Maame Biney who at just 18-years-old will compete in the short track speedskating event. Shani Davis, a 35-year-old Chicago native who is one of long track speed skating most decorated athletes and an Olympic gold medalist. Erin Jackson, who has already made history as the first black woman to secure a spot on the long track speed skating team after just four months of taking up the event. Elana Meyers Taylor, the first American female bobsled driver in a world championship to earn a World title in 2015. Kehri Jones, former track athlete turned bobsledder who broke the start record in her first World Cup appearance. Aja Evans, bobsledder who took home a bronze medal at the 2014. Jordan Greenway, the first African-American player to sit on the U.S. Olympic men’s hockey roster.
