Emmy and Tony winner Cicely Tyson will be honored at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood On April 27th for her amazing catalogue of work.
The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman star has been in the industry for over 70 years and won her first Tony Award in 2013 for the Broadway production The Trip to Bountiful.
At the age of 93 Miss Tyson is a very rare league of working actors at that age that includes the like of Betty White.
The Roots and Sounder actress will imprint her hands and foot outside of theatre in a ceremony that will honor her.
TCM Primetime Host, Ben Mankiewicz released this statement:
For decades, Tyson has been at the forefront of a shift away from clichéd, stereotypical characters of color to playing multi-dimensional, strong black women. Whether she’s playing a beleaguered mother-in-law on Broadway in ‘The Trip to Bountiful’ (and winning a Tony), or a woman who endures the black experience in America from slavery to civil rights in ‘The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman’ (and winning an Emmy), or the proud and resilient matriarch of a depression era Louisiana family in ‘Sounder’ (and earning an Oscar nomination), Cicely Tyson has set a standard of excellence for actresses of all backgrounds on the stage and screen.”
