Goapele Shines at the Theatre at Ace Hotel in Los Angeles

Goapele, performed in front of a pack audience on Saturday in Los Angeles performing songs from latest musical effort Dreamseeker which marries sultry R&B with activism. The soulful singer also showcased some of her biggest including one of my favorites “Closer”.

The event was held in conjunction with the Center for the Art of Performance at UCLA.

Though she’s lived in Los Angeles for the past seven years, Goapele has garnered “legend” status in her hometown of Oakland. The singer-songwriter is just as known for her humanitarian work as her music. Releasing her debut, album Closer in 2001 the bay area native has been cultivating her sound since the neo-soul sound was ushered in in the late 90’s early 2000’s.

Armed with a full band, an angelic voice, and a magnetic energy Goapele glowed on the stage and showed Los Angeles why she has been commanding the stage for almost 20 years.
